Singapore Hawker Culture UNESCO Nomination

Singapore’s hawker centres, hawkers, and the wide array of affordable, well-loved dishes they churn out, are an integral part of our daily lives, as well as a distinctive feature of our nation’s food heritage. In August 2018, Singapore announced its intention to nominate Hawker Culture in Singapore for the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Since its announcement, various communities, groups and individuals have contributes and participated in the preparation of the nomination.

Commissioned by the National Heritage Board, Our Singapore Hawker Culture was a travelling exhibition that stopped at hawker centres around the island, showcasing the hawker culture in Singapore and served as a platform for Singaporeans to pledge their support for the nomination. The collected pledges contributed towards the submission of the nomination in March 2019.
